RECREATION & EVENTS
Characteristic of old New England towns, Brookline and its neighbors have a number of community festivals and town traditions that unite the populace. Several farms in the area grow strawberries lending to the Strawberry Festival held in nearby Hollis, celebrating the annual harvest with strawberry-themed deserts, games and music. Additionally, there is the annual Apple Festival in the fall, with desserts, festivities, a popular apple pie contest and a half-marathon. Perhaps the most popular area event is Old Home Day, held in September. There is often an Old Home Day dance, carnival, hot air balloon rides, fireworks and dozens of booths and pavilions set up like traditional New England fairs.
